Apples vs Oranges

That is one of the age old questions.  Which is better, Apples or Oranges? Then the question becomes are we talking about popularity, taste or health benefits?

When it comes to taste it is a matter of personal opinion. Both taste pretty darn good.  While I prefer the sweet orange citrus taste others may find the crispness of the apple.  Both have many varieties that offer different variations in the tastes and texture of these wonderful snacks.

Based purely on the number shipped yearly the orange holds a slight edge. Also more oranges are grown worldwide than apples.

The apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae). It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits, and the most widely known of the many members of genus Malus that are used by humans.

The orange (specifically, the sweet orange) is the fruit of the citrus species Citrus × sinensis in the family Rutaceae. The fruit of the Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from that of the Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange.

Apples are known to have numerous health benefits ranging from preventing Asthma, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson's disease, certain cancers, gallstones, type2 diabetes and reducing cholesterol, hemorrhoids and help controlling your weight etc. The high soluble fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants help boost your immune system and fortify your body.

Oranges, due to their excellent source of vitamins, fiber and minerals, also help prevent Asthma, diabetes, Arthritis, certain cancers, kidney stones, high blood pressure and lower cholesterol.
