Creatures Who Have Made Orange Famous

As our regular readers know we tend to share the strange and unusual side of oranges, their various uses and all things orange on Wednesday. Today we are going to show somwe images of orange color that have become part of our everyday life.

Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins
A carved pumpkin, or turnip, associated chiefly with the holiday of Halloween and named after the phenomenon of strange light flickering over peat bogs, called will-o'-the-wisp or jack-o'-lantern. In a jack-o'-lantern, the top is cut off to form a lid and the inside flesh then scooped out; an image, usually a monstrous or comical face, is carved out of the pumpkin's rind to expose the hollow interior. To create the lantern effect, a light source (such as a candle or tea light) is placed within before the lid is closed. This is traditionally a flame or electric candle, though pumpkin lights featuring various colors and flickering effects are also marketed specifically for this purpose. It is common to see jack-o'-lanterns on doorsteps and otherwise used as decorations prior to and during Halloween.

Orange Colored Safety Gear
High-visibility (HV) clothing, a type of personal protective equipment (PPE), is any clothing worn that has highly reflective properties or a color that is easily discernible from any background. Yellow waistcoats worn by emergency services are a common example. Occupational wearers of clothing with high-visibility features include railway and highway workers, airport workers, or other places where workers are near moving vehicles or in dark areas. Some cyclists wear high-visibility clothing when riding amongst motor vehicles. Hunters may be required to wear designated high-visibility clothing to prevent accidental shooting.

Garfield The Cat
Garfield is a fictional character and the title protagonist from the comic strip Garfield created by Jim Davis. The comic strip centers on Garfield and portrays him to be a lazy, fat and cynical orange cat. He loves lasagna and coffee, and hates Mondays, Nermal and raisins. Garfield relates to many because of his passion for food, his ability to just eat a lot, and his lack of motivation to work out. Sleep is his favorite hobby and to him, "Diet is 'die' with a 't'".

Mae West Life Jacket
A personal flotation device (abbreviated as PFD; also referred to as a life jacket, life preserver, life belt, Mae West, life vest, life saver, cork jacket, buoyancy aid or flotation suit) is piece of equipment designed to assist a wearer, who may be either conscious or unconscious, to keep afloat.

PFDs are available in different sizes to accommodate variances in body weight. Designs differ depending on wearing convenience and level of protection.
